Kapha Dosha physical and mental characteristics and balancing 

Physical characteristics –

As per Ayurveda Kapha people have strong, sturdy and well developed bodies. Their bones are large and strong.  And they can carry more weight than Vata or Pitta type. When Kapha people are in balance. They have strong immune system. They have a great deal of capacity for intense physical activity. In sexual life they are slow to arouse but can continue for long period of time.

Kapha people are ruled by earth and water element. Kapha have tendency for weight gain. They are prone to obese. Kaphas have slow metabolism and digestion. Ulike Vata and Pitta, Kaphas can easily skip meal without any side affects.

Kaphas tend to run cool and prefer to avoid cool, damp conditions. They better in windy or sunny places. Kapha people skin can be cool as well as oily, moist. They have soft skin, hair and voice. Their eyes tend to be dark and large, with gentle expression. They may have long thick eyelashes and eyebrows, and the hair on the rest of their bodies can be thick and abundant.

Kapha people are most stable in all the types. They do everything without hurrying. Their movement and speech may be slow. Their sleep is deep and long, and it takes them a while to wake up in the morning. They usually need coffee or some stimulant to fully wake up.

Physical problems caused by Kapha aggravated includes cold, flu, sinus, headache, congestion, respiratory problems, asthma, hay fever, allergies. Most extreme conditions associated with this type are diabetes and heart attack.

Mental Characteristics –

Kaphas are usually very loving, affectionate and tolerant. They are faithful and reliable. When they are happy. They are easygoing, undemanding and forgiving. Kaphas are unhurried and steady in all they do. They make decision slowly and slow in other activities. Kapha people takes time to grasp new ideas and information, though once they learned something, they don’t forget it. When Kapha put their mind to something, their innate steadfastness and energy usually pay off. They are not good in earning money, but also holding onto it. Comfort and security important for them.

When Kapha is not balance, Kaphas can become greedy and possessive. Though they are blessed with inherently strong bodies, they dislike exercise and try to avoid it. This tendency lead to lethargy and depression. In extreme cases they become obese. Kaphas have hard time communicating their feelings, they may suppress their emotions.

  • Slow to anger.
  • Loving, affectionate, kind, gentle and forgiving, highly tolerant.
  • Difficulty in expressing emotion.
  • Love food, especially sweets.
  • Prone to problems involving mucus production.
  • Prone to allergy, asthma, diabetes and heart attack.
  • Prone to depression, grief, greed, possessiveness.

Balancing Kapha

According to Ayurvedic practitioner for balancing kapha try to observe basic guidelines. Make sure to stay warm and dry. Avoid heavy, sweet, fatty foods. Eat food that are lighter and don’t eat snacks. Try not to over sleep and make sure to get plenty of vigorous exercise.
