Ayurveda Introduction – The Science of Longevity

Ayurveda the science of longevity is consists of two words in ‘Sanskrit’ : ayur, which means “life”, and veda, which means “knowledge”

Ayurveda is known as Ayurveda life science. This ancient Indian system of Ayurveda healing has discovered over many centuries and is believed to be 5000 years old and possibly older then that. Ayurveda treatment methods for healing are natural: instead of relying on synthetic drugs for quick fixes, Ayurveda practitioner mostly uses food, herbs, and gentle lifestyle practices like yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation to cultivate optimal health. other adjunct therapies that are sometimes used include mantra chant for relaxations, massage therapy, aromatherapy, gem therapy, metal and mineral therapies. Though the use of these methods are natural, noninvasive, the total health of your being is built up slowly and steadily.

In western medicine system, there is tendency to identify physical symptom and treat them without necessarily probing in to their origin. But in contrast, Ayurveda looks at the whole person in order to gain a deep understanding of the present symptoms. For example if you go to a typical western doctor because you are feeling seek. you will likely be given a prescription for a drug that will effectively suppress your symptom for a matter of time but wont actually address the root cause of your illness. An Ayurveda practitioner, on the other hand, will be interested in looking at all dimension of your being to see what might have made you vulnerable to getting sick in the first place. Your overall physical health will be considered thoroughly, but so will the mental and spiritual aspect of your being. In Ayurveda, it doesn’t make sense to try to heal the body without taking in to account a person’s mental and spiritual condition. Dr. Deepak Chopra writes in Perfect Balance, “The guiding principle of Ayurveda is that the mind exerts deepest influence on the body, and freedom from sickness depends upon contacting our own awareness, brining it in to balance, and then extending that balance to the body”.

Ayurveda also takes into account the larger context of your life, After all, you can’t really look at these dimensions of yourself-body, mind, and spirit-without giving some thought to the exterior that will influence those parts of you. So Ayurveda consider factors like weather and seasons and how may they affect your body. Ayurveda also looks at the food that you are putting into your body, the kind of activities that you are engaged in, the work you do, and the relationship you are involved in. Ever aspect of daily life helps in assessment of your health and the treatments and lifestyle recommendation that are prescribed.

Ayurveda has treatment for all the different sorts of health issues, from mild condition like common cold to those are quite sever and even life threatening. In order to stay healthy, you need to be an active participant in your health management. this means that while you may receive prescription and life style recommendation from an Ayurveda practitioner, it ultimately up to you to take responsibility for integrating these in to your life. In this way, you are empowered to actively participate in your own healing instead of just relying on someone else to cure you. With this approach any one can able to attain and maintain a whole new level of vibrant health.
