In Ayurveda constipation is known as Vibandh, Kostha Badhata and Aanah
Ayurveda says all the problem arises from stomach due to our ignorance in diet and lifestyle. As we continue, later these small problems develop in to more serious health problems. According to Ayurveda constipation is caused by imbalance in Vata dosha, which is responsible for all bodily movement. Constipation can be resolve with some simple changes in diet, herbs, exercise and lifestyle changes.

Characteristic Symptom
- Delay in frequency of the bowel, hard stool, a feeling of incomplete evacuation and pain and difficulty in passing stools.
- Heaviness in stomach, abdominal cramps, increased wind formation, headache, dizziness, lethargy, loss of appetite and some times bleeding while defecating.
Ayurvedic View
As per Ayurveda two types have been specified
- Caused by accumulation of undigested food juice called Aamaj aanah.
- Caused by accumulation of waste matter in the intestine, called Purishaj aanah.
Constipation Home Remedies
- Take 2 heaped tsp Isabgol powder once in the day time and once at bed time with warm water. The better way is to add approx.. 1 glassful of water to the husk of Isabgol; let it soak for at least 1 to 2 hours; take preferably bed time.
- Fry Harad in ghee, then powder it. Take this along with warm water once or twice a day for few days.
- Make a powder by crushing the leaves of senna and take half tablespoon twice with warm water.
- Mix 1 tablespoon ghee in a cup of warm milk and take this at bed time regularly for some days.
- Take powdered mulethi mixed with jaggery to relieve constipation.
- Extract the pulp from the roots of arni, roast it in ghee and take it with warm milk.
- Drink 1tsp of castor oil with warm milk at bedtime for minimum one week.
- Soak some black resin in hot water for few hours then mash them and drink juice, preferably at bedtime.
- Take 1 to 2 tsp sweet rose jelly called Gulukanda twice, along with warm milk.
- Soak a few dates in milk till soft; mash their pulp and mix it in milk. Take twice a day.
- Take 3 to 5 gm of Harad along with warm water.
- Take equal quantities of turmeric powder and black salt along with warm water after meal.
