Diabetes is a multi factor disease resulting from lack of exercise, bad food habits and life style. Though there are variation in the symptoms and nature of this disease, its common feature the excessive sugar in the blood and its passing out with the urine of the patients.
In Diabetes pancreas does not produce enough insulin, the body fails to utilize sugar and create energy from it. Consequently, there is frequent urination, excessive tiredness, blurring vision, general weakness and skin disorder in diabetic patients. Further in chronic condition hypertension and kidney disorder also develop. In general line of treatment diabetic patient is to inject insulin to compensate what could not be produced by the pancreas. The main trouble with medicinal treatment is that the patient has to keep taking injection and other medication indefinitely.
The treatment with Yoga requires:
The yogic treatment consist of two aspects : Proper Diet & Regular Yoga practice.
In the initial stage, the patient can start Yoga practice without stopping medicine or injections. If he happens to be under medical treatment. After practicing Yoga for 3-4 weeks patient can gradually reduce the medicine under certified medical practitioner.

Proper Diet
It is important for the patient avoid fried, fatty, spicy, and sugar containing food for a period of four months from the date starting Yoga. The diabetic patients should not take rice, potato, banana, grapes, oranges, mangoes and such fruits contain high percentage of sugar. It is found that diabetic people have extra weight. Their weight should be reduce to normal level. A diet chart for the diabetic is given as below:
Breakfast ( 7 to 9 A.M. )
- Apple – One or Tomato juice one cup.
- Germinated grams ( one forth cup ).
- Whole wheat bread 2-3 pieces, or dalia, or corn flakes withmilk.
- Egg one boiled.
- Tea or coffee one cup.
Lunch and Dinner ( 12 to 2 P.M., 6 to 8 P.M. )
- Salad ( a mixture of cucumber, tomato, onion, lettuce, radish, some other green vegetables and some lemon juice ).
- Soup ( Vegetable soup )
- Wheat bread.
- Pulse ( moong, masoor, chana )
- Saag ( green leafy vegetable, spinach )
- For non vegetarian fish or liver.
Afternoon Refreshment ( 3 to 5 P.M. )
- Apple or few slice of papaya or guava.
- Salted biscuits.
- Cheese a few slices.
- Tea ( preferably green tea ) or coffee without sugar.
